assigned gender
Birth-recorded sex category
Assigned gender is the sex category—male or female—recorded at birth, typically based on the infant's external anatomy.
The term emerged in discussions of transgender identity to distinguish between this initial designation and a person's later gender identity: Her assigned gender was male, but she transitioned at nineteen.
Sometimes expanded to "assigned gender at birth" or abbreviated AGAB.
