cis person

Birth-gender-matching person

A cis person is someone whose gender identity matches the sex they were assigned at birth—the opposite of a transgender person.

Short for cisgender.

The term emerged in the 1990s as a neutral counterpart to trans, borrowed from chemistry where cis- and trans- describe molecular arrangements.

Most cis people don't think much about their gender identity.
