tower block

Vertical residential structure

A tower block is a tall residential building containing many apartments, typically built as public housing.

The term is chiefly British; Americans would say high-rise or apartment building.

Tower blocks became common in postwar urban planning, though many have since been criticized or demolished: The council approved demolition of three tower blocks.
