tom-tom
Hand-struck tribal drum
A tom-tom is a drum, especially one beaten with the hands.
The word originally referred to drums used in Asian or African cultures, often with connotations of primitive or tribal music.
In modern drum kits, tom-toms (or just toms) are the cylindrical drums mounted above the bass drum or standing on the floor: He played a fill across the toms.
