bodhrán

Celtic frame drum

A bodhrán is a shallow Irish frame drum, typically held vertically and played with a short double-headed stick called a tipper or beater.

The goatskin head produces a deep, resonant tone central to traditional Irish music: The bodhrán kept time through the jig.

Pronounced roughly "BOW-rawn."
