timbales
Shallow Latin percussion
Timbales are a pair of single-headed drums mounted on a stand, central to Latin music—particularly salsa, mambo, and Cuban styles.
The player strikes the metal shells and rims as well as the heads, producing sharp, cutting tones that drive the rhythm section.
Separately, a timbale is a molded dish of rice, meat, or vegetables, or the drum-shaped mold used to make it.
