toggle switch

On-off control mechanism

A toggle switch is a switch operated by flipping a small lever or projecting arm back and forth between positions—typically on and off.

The term applies to physical switches on machinery and electronics, and to their virtual counterparts in software interfaces: Toggle the switch to enable dark mode.
