zippers

Teeth that mesh

Zippers are fastening devices consisting of two strips of interlocking metal or plastic teeth that join or separate when a sliding tab is pulled along them.

Found on clothing, bags, and countless other items, zippers replaced buttons and hooks for many applications: My jacket zipper is stuck.

The verb zip means to fasten with a zipper or to move quickly.
