talk box

Vocal guitar effect

A talk box is an effects device that routes an instrument's sound—usually electric guitar—through a tube into the performer's mouth, allowing them to shape the tone with their lips and tongue to create vowel-like sounds and speech effects.

The result is a distinctive robotic voice quality, famously used in funk and rock: Peter Frampton's talk box solo on "Do You Feel Like We Do".
