drum machine
Electronic rhythm generator
A drum machine is an electronic device that produces percussion sounds and rhythmic patterns.
Originally hardware units with preset beats, drum machines now exist mainly as software.
They became central to hip-hop, electronic dance music, and pop production: The track's backbone is a simple drum machine loop.
Classic models like the Roland TR-808 remain influential for their distinctive sounds.
