stompbox

Floor effects unit

A stompbox is a small effects pedal for electric guitar or bass, operated by foot while playing.

The name comes from the stomping motion used to activate it.

Stompboxes modify the instrument's sound—adding distortion, delay, reverb, or other effects: He built his own fuzz stompbox.

Musicians often chain multiple stompboxes on a pedalboard.
