sluiceway

Controlled water channel

A sluiceway is an artificial channel for directing water flow, typically fitted with a gate or valve to control the current.

Sluiceways appear in mining operations to wash ore, in mills to power water wheels, and in dams to manage overflow: The sluiceway diverted excess water from the reservoir.
