sit-up

Torso-raising movement

A sit-up is an exercise in which you lie flat on your back, bend your knees, and raise your upper body to a sitting position without using your hands: I do fifty sit-ups every morning.

Sit-ups strengthen the abdominal muscles.

The similar crunch involves a smaller range of motion.
