silkscreens

Stencil-based printmaking method

Silkscreens are prints made by forcing ink through a mesh screen onto a surface, with a stencil blocking areas that should remain unprinted.

The technique produces bold, flat colors and crisp edges—Andy Warhol's celebrity portraits are iconic examples.

As a verb, to silkscreen is to print using this method: We silkscreened the band logo onto t-shirts.

Also called screen printing or serigraphy.
