mockup
Preliminary design model
A mockup is a model or replica made for demonstration, testing, or planning purposes.
Architects show mockups of buildings, designers create website mockups before coding, and manufacturers build mockups of products before production.
Unlike a prototype, which functions, a mockup typically shows only appearance or layout: The mockup looked great but had no working parts.
Also spelled mock-up.
