Rauschenberg

Robert Rauschenberg was an American artist whose work bridged Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art in the mid-twentieth century.

His "combines"—hybrid works incorporating found objects, fabric, and paint—challenged boundaries between painting and sculpture.

The museum acquired a major Rauschenberg from the 1960s.

The name sometimes appears as shorthand for his distinctive aesthetic of assemblage and appropriation.
