hard bop

Grittier bebop evolution

Hard bop is a style of jazz that emerged in the mid-1950s as a grittier, more soulful reaction to cool jazz.

It retains bebop's complexity but incorporates blues, gospel, and rhythm and blues influences, with harder-driving rhythms and earthier melodies.

Art Blakey, Horace Silver, and Clifford Brown were central figures.

The album is classic hard bop from the Blue Note era.
