keywork

Keys and linkages

Keywork refers to the system of keys and their connecting rods on a woodwind instrument like a clarinet, flute, or saxophone.

The keywork allows players to cover tone holes they couldn't reach with fingers alone: The saxophone's keywork needs adjustment—several pads aren't sealing properly.

By extension, keywork can describe any arrangement of keys or levers forming an interconnected mechanism.
