saxophones
Curvy brass woodwinds
Saxophones are wind instruments with a single-reed mouthpiece and a curved metal body, invented in the 1840s.
The saxophone family spans soprano to bass, with alto and tenor most common.
Though made of brass, saxophones are classified as woodwinds because of how they produce sound.
They dominate jazz and feature in concert bands, rock, and classical music: a wailing saxophone solo.
