tonguing

Flute player's technique

Tonguing is a technique in playing wind instruments where the tongue interrupts airflow to articulate notes, creating distinct attacks rather than continuous sound.

Players tongue by touching the tip of the tongue to the reed or roof of the mouth: Her double tonguing on the flute passage was flawless.

The term also applies to using the tongue during kissing or oral sex.
