rude boy

Jamaican street youth

Rude boy originated in 1960s Jamaica for young men associated with street culture, ska music, and stylish dress—often with an edge of rebellion or petty crime.

The term was revived by British ska and two-tone movements in the late 1970s, where rude boys embraced sharp suits, porkpie hats, and dancehall swagger.

The rude boys lined up outside the club in their best threads.

Today it can simply mean a cool or tough young man, especially in Caribbean and British contexts.
