retractions

Published correction notices

Retractions are formal withdrawals of statements, claims, or publications.

A newspaper prints a retraction when it publishes something false.

Scientists retract papers when findings prove unreliable or fraudulent.

The word also applies to physical drawing back: the retraction of landing gear, muscle retraction during surgery.

In both senses, something extended is pulled back in.
