railhead

Where rails end

A railhead is the farthest point to which a railroad line has been built, especially during construction: Supplies were shipped to the railhead and hauled overland from there.

In military contexts, it's the point where equipment and troops transfer from rail to other transport.

The term also refers to the end of a rail where it meets the wheel.
