cattle drive
Moving livestock westward
A cattle drive is the herding of livestock over long distances on foot or horseback, moving animals from ranches to railheads, markets, or new grazing lands.
The term evokes the American West of the late 1800s, when cowboys drove herds hundreds of miles along trails like the Chisholm: The cattle drive took six weeks to reach Kansas.
