pulsatile

Having regular throbs

Pulsatile describes something that pulses or throbs rhythmically, especially in medicine: pulsatile blood flow, a pulsatile mass.

The term appears in clinical contexts where the rhythmic expansion and contraction matters—arterial blood flow is pulsatile, venous flow generally isn't.

The ultrasound revealed pulsatile flow through the vessel.
