lavage

Therapeutic body flushing

Lavage is the washing out of a body cavity or wound with water or a medicated solution.

The term is almost exclusively medical: gastric lavage pumps the stomach, bronchoalveolar lavage flushes the lungs for diagnostic sampling.

The word comes from French for washing.
