poses
Strikes for cameras
Poses covers both physical positioning and pretense.
A pose is a deliberate arrangement of the body—for a photograph, a painting, or in yoga.
To pose is to hold such a position: She posed for the portrait.
But pose also means to present or put forward: The situation poses a challenge.
When someone poses as something, they pretend to be it: He posed as a doctor to gain access.
A pose can therefore be an affected manner—behavior meant to impress rather than express: His cynicism is just a pose.
