parturition
Bringing forth offspring
Parturition is the medical or formal term for giving birth—the process by which a fetus is expelled from the uterus.
The word appears almost exclusively in clinical, veterinary, or scientific contexts: The cow showed signs of imminent parturition.
In ordinary speech, people say childbirth, labor, or delivery.
