afterbirth
Post-delivery tissue mass
Afterbirth is the placenta and fetal membranes expelled from the uterus after a baby is born.
In humans, medical staff typically dispose of it; in many animals, the mother eats it.
The term is straightforward: it's what comes after the birth.
The midwife examined the afterbirth to make sure it was complete.
