fetus
Unborn but growing
A fetus is an unborn mammal in the later stages of development, after major structures have formed.
In humans, this stage begins around the ninth week of pregnancy and continues until birth.
Before this point, the developing organism is called an embryo.
The term appears frequently in medical contexts and debates over abortion rights: fetal development, fetal heartbeat.
