eclampsia
Pregnant woman's seizures
Eclampsia is a life-threatening condition occurring in late pregnancy, characterized by seizures in a woman with preeclampsia (dangerously high blood pressure).
Without treatment, it can cause organ damage, coma, or death to mother or baby.
The term appears almost exclusively in medical contexts: She developed eclampsia and was rushed to the hospital for an emergency cesarean.
