blastocyst
Pre-implantation embryo stage
A blastocyst is an early stage of embryonic development, forming about five days after fertilization in humans.
It's a hollow ball of cells with an inner mass that will become the embryo and an outer layer that will form the placenta.
Blastocysts are central to in vitro fertilization, where they're cultured before implantation: The clinic transferred two blastocysts.
