cervix
Womb's narrow passage
The cervix is the narrow, lower portion of the uterus that connects to the vagina.
It dilates during childbirth to allow passage of the baby.
Medical exams check the cervix for abnormalities; a Pap smear screens for cervical cancer.
More broadly, cervix means any neck-like anatomical structure, though the uterine cervix dominates modern usage.
