amniotic fluid
Fetal cushioning liquid
Amniotic fluid is the liquid that surrounds and cushions a fetus in the womb.
Contained within the amniotic sac, it protects the developing baby from physical shock, maintains stable temperature, and allows movement for muscle and bone development.
When a pregnant woman's water breaks, the amniotic sac has ruptured and this fluid is released.
