aerosols

Cans that hiss

Aerosols are tiny particles or droplets suspended in air or gas.

The term covers both natural phenomena—fog, dust, pollen—and manufactured products that spray fine mists: hairspray, insecticide, spray paint.

In everyday use, aerosol usually means a pressurized canister that dispenses its contents as a spray: an aerosol can of deodorant.

Aerosols became controversial when propellants were linked to ozone depletion.
