panflute
Graduated tube instrument
A panflute is a wind instrument made of graduated tubes bound together, played by blowing across the open tops.
Each tube produces a single note, with pitch determined by length.
The instrument appears across many cultures—ancient Greece, the Andes, Eastern Europe—and produces a breathy, ethereal sound: The panflute melody floated over the crowd.
Also spelled pan flute.
