overblowing

Pressurizing for overtones

Overblowing is a technique on wind instruments where the player increases air pressure to produce higher notes—typically an octave or more above the fundamental pitch.

Flutes and clarinets are designed to be overblown for their upper registers.

Outside music, overblowing means exaggerating or making too much of something: The media is overblowing the scandal.
