paint horse

Patched equine breed

A paint horse is a horse with large patches of white and another color, typically brown or black, in an irregular pattern.

The American Paint Horse is a specific breed developed from quarter horses and thoroughbreds, but the term also describes the color pattern generally: She rode a paint horse across the mesa.

Also called a pinto.
