oystercatcher

Black-and-white shorebird

An oystercatcher is a shorebird with a long, bright orange or red bill adapted for prying open shellfish.

Despite the name, they feed more on mussels, clams, and other bivalves than on oysters.

Several species exist worldwide, typically black and white with pink legs, found along coastlines and estuaries.
