twitcher
Avian obsessive traveler
A twitcher is a birdwatcher who travels long distances to see rare species, driven by the goal of adding to a personal list.
The term is mainly British and carries a hint of obsessiveness—someone who might drop everything to chase a reported sighting: Twitchers descended on the coastal reserve after a hoopoe was spotted.
The name may come from the nervous excitement such pursuits induce.
