photoaging

Sunlight skin deterioration

Photoaging is the premature aging of skin caused by repeated exposure to ultraviolet radiation, primarily from sunlight.

Unlike chronological aging, which happens naturally over time, photoaging produces distinctive damage including deep wrinkles, leathery texture, dark spots, and loss of elasticity.

Dermatologists use the term to distinguish sun-induced changes from normal aging, since photoaging is largely preventable with sun protection.

Years of tanning left her with significant photoaging on her chest and hands.
