oblique muscles
Side abdominal fibers
Oblique muscles are muscles that run diagonally rather than straight up-and-down or side-to-side.
The term most often refers to the abdominal obliques—internal and external—which wrap around the torso and enable twisting and side-bending movements: Crunches with rotation work the obliques.
The eyes also have oblique muscles that control rotational movement of the eyeball.
