national day

Country's birthday celebration

A national day is any holiday that celebrates a country's identity, independence, or founding—what Americans call Independence Day, the French call Bastille Day, and so on.

The term is generic, referring to whatever date a particular nation designates for patriotic celebration: Many countries hold parades on their national day. (Capitalized National Day typically refers to specific holidays, especially China's October 1st celebration.)
