moldmaking

Shaping hollow forms

Moldmaking is the craft or process of creating molds—hollow forms used to shape materials like metal, plastic, glass, or concrete.

The moldmaker designs and fabricates the cavity into which molten or pliable material is poured or pressed, then removed once hardened.

The skill requires precision: He learned moldmaking at an automotive parts factory.

Also spelled mould-making in British English.
