A micrometre is one millionth of a metre, used to measure extremely small objects like cells, bacteria, or semiconductor components.
Also spelled micrometer, though that spelling more commonly refers to the precision measuring instrument.
The symbol is μm.
A human hair is roughly 70 micrometres in diameter.
