manic
Feverishly high-strung
Manic describes a state of intense energy, excitement, or agitation.
In psychiatry, it refers to the elevated phase of bipolar disorder—marked by racing thoughts, decreased need for sleep, and impulsive behavior.
More loosely, manic describes anyone in a frenzied or hyperactive state: She cleaned the entire house in a manic burst of energy.
The word carries connotations of being slightly out of control.
