red light runner
Signal-ignoring driver
A red light runner is someone who drives through a traffic signal after it has turned red.
The term appears in news reports, traffic safety campaigns, and everyday complaints about dangerous driving: A red light runner nearly hit me in the crosswalk.
The phrase emphasizes the violation as a character type rather than a single act.
