A lanai is a roofed porch or veranda, especially in Hawaiian architecture.
The term is used broadly in Hawaii for any covered outdoor living space, whether screened or open: We had drinks on the lanai.
The word has spread to mainland American English, particularly in Florida and other warm climates, for similar outdoor rooms.
