back porch
Behind the house
A back porch is a covered platform attached to the rear of a house, typically used for informal relaxation or domestic tasks.
Unlike the front porch, which faces the street and neighbors, the back porch offers privacy: We sat on the back porch drinking iced tea and watching the kids play in the yard.
In American Southern culture especially, back porches carry associations of family gatherings, casual conversation, and escape from summer heat.
