locknut
Nut resisting vibration
A locknut is a nut designed to resist loosening from vibration or torque.
Some locknuts use a nylon insert that grips the bolt threads; others are deformed or slotted to create friction.
A second nut tightened against the first—called a jam nut—serves the same purpose: Tighten the locknut against the adjustment nut to hold the setting.
